Marta Ruiz possesses extensive experience in marine environmental protection, currently serving as an Associate Professional Secretary at HELCOM since May 2013, focusing on marine policies, nutrient and hazardous substance inputs, marine litter, and underwater noise. Prior roles at HELCOM include Project Coordinator and Project Researcher, where responsibilities involved coordinating efforts on marine litter and addressing alien species issues. Marta's previous positions include Project Technician at Fundación CETMAR, researcher and technical advisor roles with various organizations including the Spanish Ministry of Fomento, and a post-doctoral fellowship at the Technical University of Crete. Marta holds a PhD in Marine Sciences from the Universidad de Cantabria, an Environmental Technician degree, and an MSc in Marine Sciences from Universidad de Cádiz.
