Drew Engelstein

Drew Engelstein is a Lead Software Engineer at Hello Alice. Drew has over eight years of experience in software engineering and partner marketing.

Drew started their career at FutureAdvisor as a Senior Manager, Partner Marketing. Drew was responsible for developing and executing marketing programs to drive customer acquisition and growth through partnerships. Drew also created and managed a team of marketing professionals.

In August 2019, they joined Alice - the intelligent business advisor as a Senior Software Engineer. There, they developed, debugged, reviewed, and scoped out tickets for features using React, Ruby on Rails & GraphQL. Drew also tested features with Jest, Enzyme, React-Testing-Library and RSpec. In addition to that, they managed QA/Staging environments & deploying code to production.

Drew was also responsible for improving API request response times by reducing response payload & migrating tasks to background workers. Drew developed our new user onboarding flow and added background workers to populate answers to user’s profiles. Drew code split our frontend from our monolithic app into its own repo, setup CI/CD through Codeship & AWS. Horizontally scaled web instances to support our rapid user growth (30k-200k in 2 months). Drew collaborated with the Design team & broader Product group to ensure features were fully scoped and understood by the Engineering team. Drew also expanded our internal CMS tool to move content creation from engineering to the broader team.

Drew Engelstein has a background in computer software engineering and economics. Drew attended App Academy for their BA in computer software engineering and University of California, Berkeley for their BA in economics. Drew also has a certification from Coursera in Architecting with Google Kubernetes Engine: Foundations.

They work with Jose Diaz - Software Engineer, Blake Parkinson - Senior Front-End Engineer, and Mika Gurrola - Senior Front-End Engineer. Their manager is Mark Lancaster, Director of Engineering.
