Todd W. Benson

Chief Innovation Officer at Helmerich & Payne

Todd Benson has served as the Chief Innovation Officer of Helmerich & Payne Technologies since 2020. He leads a business that drives development of advanced technologies and directional drilling automation solutions. Previously, Benson was president of H&P Technologies and joined Helmerich & Payne, Inc. in June 2017 with the acquisition of Motive Drilling Technologies, Inc. Mr. Benson was the Chief Executive Officer of the Motive startup with investments from Formation8, GE Ventures and Hunt Oil Company where the company was originally incubated in 2011. Prior to working in the oilfield, Mr. Benson served in many roles in the high-tech industry at Motorola/Freescale Semiconductor and Texas Instruments.

Mr. Benson graduated from the Colorado School of Mines after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and holds over 40 US patents in automation and downhole tool design.
