Dr. Raffael Ott

Lead Scientist at Helmholtz Munich

Dr. Raffael Ott has a diverse work experience in the field of diabetes research. Dr. Raffael started their career as a Research Assistant at Forschergruppe Diabetes e.V. from September 2008 to August 2010. Later, they joined the Technical University of Munich as a Student Intern for a brief period from April 2012 to June 2012. Dr. Ott then worked at Helmholtz Munich, where they held the positions of Postdoctoral Researcher from June 2019 to August 2022 and Lead Scientist since September 2022. In their current role, they lead research focused on computational biology and immune response trajectories of type 1 diabetes development at the Institute of Diabetes Research. Dr. Raffael utilizes epigenomics, genomics, and immunology to explore the complex mechanisms underlying autoimmunity and type 1 diabetes.

Dr. Raffael Ott earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Science from the Technical University of Munich from 2006 to 2009. Dr. Raffael then went on to obtain a Master of Science degree in Nutritional Science from the same university from 2009 to 2011. Dr. Ott further pursued their education at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where they obtained a Ph.D. in Biology from 2012 to 2018. Additionally, they also had a brief study period at the University of Adelaide in 2011 and at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin from 2012 to 2018.
