Anissa joined Helps Education Fund as a HELPS Charlotte Tutor in October 2021. While tutoring, Anissa discovered a genuine connection with her students, whom she met with almost daily. She observed growth in their confidence and reading fluency during their sessions together. This realization prompted her to want to work more in-depth with Helps Education Fund. Anissa’s mother instilled the importance of education within her from a young age. Therefore, Anissa takes inequitable access to education very seriously and loves that the organization is doing the work to fill a vital need. In September 2022, Anissa became an Implementation Coordinator in Charlotte. Anissa is very excited to work with the team to continue addressing educational inequity within the community.
Before joining Helps Education Fund, Anissa studied at UNC-Greensboro, where she graduated with a B.A. in Political Science. During her time at UNC-Greensboro, Anissa served as a Resident Assistant within the Housing Department, and a Student Advisor on the University’s Conduct Team. Anissa also participated in various clubs focused on volunteer work, language learning, and leadership development. Anissa plans to pursue a law degree within the next couple of
