Veera Luoma-Aho

Veera Luoma-aho has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of journalism. Veera started their career as a freelance journalist in 2003 and continued working in that capacity until 2010. During this time, they also served as the Editor-in-chief at Ylioppilaslehti, the largest student newspaper in Finland.

In 2011, Luoma-aho joined Helsingin Sanomat, where they worked as a Staff Writer for the monthly magazine supplement called Kuukausiliite. Veera remained in this role until 2012. Afterwards, they became a Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, where they studied various aspects of journalism including narrative writing, photography, video production, multimedia storytelling, data and investigative-based journalism.

Luoma-aho returned to Helsingin Sanomat in 2013 as a Staff Writer, focusing on cultural trends, politics, and economy. Later that year, they joined Aller Media AS as the Editor in Chief of Olivia, a position they held until 2015. In the same year, they moved to Aller Media Oy, Finland, where they served as the Editor in Chief of Digital Content until 2016.

From 2016 to 2021, Luoma-aho co-founded and led Jaksomedia as the CEO. Finally, in 2021, they joined Helsingin Sanomat again, this time as the Head of Department for Politics, Business & Economy.

Veera Luoma-aho's education history includes a range of experiences in the field of journalism and political science. In 1999, they began their studies at the University of Helsinki, where they pursued a MSSc degree in Political Science and International Relations. Veera'stime at the university lasted for nine years, as they completed their studies in 2008. In order to further expand their knowledge and skills in journalism, Veera Luoma-aho enrolled at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences from 2009 to 2010. There, they focused on the field of Broadcast Journalism. Additionally, they had the opportunity to advance their expertise at the Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, University of California, Berkeley, where they were a Visiting Scholar from 2012 to 2013. With this academic background, Veera Luoma-aho has developed a strong foundation in both political science and journalism.
