Michael Akintonwa has worked in a variety of roles in the marketing and communications fields since 2017. From 2017 to 2018, they worked as a Communications Officer at the UGA Small Satellite Research Lab, where they created print, video, digital, and social media content to meet public outreach goals and attract new talent, resulting in a 200% increase in membership applications. Michael also systematized the recruiting process and developed and launched an internal review system to improve team satisfaction and retention. In 2018, they worked as a PR & Outreach Intern at NASA Marshall, where they audited social media accounts to bolster online engagement and collaborated with the department to author a press release on International Space Station Downlink. Michael also served as social media chairman for interns. From 2019 to 2020, they worked as a Marketing Intern at Hermeus, where they worked closely with founders to develop social media and recruitment messaging strategies to connect audiences with company culture and support uniform brand voice. Michael also made creative content including digital, print, and event copy, press releases, and a graphic identity system. Since 2020, they have worked as a Health Communications Fellow at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where they have coordinated with eight cross-functional CDC programs to proofread, edit, process, and schedule public health-related social media posts and build weekly social media calendars. Michael has also acted as channel manager and primary point-of-contact for CDC Facebook, LinkedIn, and @CDC_eHealth accounts, providing account-related support for programs and contractors. Michael has also concepted and storyboarded COVID-19-focused stories for Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and Twitter, translating complex health information into simple language to educate young audiences, reaching up to 250,000 views per story. Lastly, they are currently working as a Marketing Strategist at Hermeus since 2022 and a Generation Z Strategist at Talking Dog Agency since 2017.
