John Nies has a diverse work experience in the energy and manufacturing industries. John started their career in 2007 as an Operations Engineer at Lake Erie Biofuels/Hero BX, where they stayed until 2010. In 2010, they joined Lord Corporation as an Engineer. John then returned to Hero BX in 2011 as an Operations Manager and eventually became the Director of Procurement & Logistics in 2012. Currently, they hold the role of Vice President of Operations at HERO BX.
John Nies has a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) degree in Biosystems Engineering, which they obtained from Clemson University between 2002 and 2006. John then pursued a Master's degree in Engineering Management at Gannon University from 2007 to 2012.

HERO BX
HERO BX is engaged in the production and marketing of biodiesel at the Company’s facility located in Erie, Pennsylvania. HERO BX is managed by Erie Management Group, LLC and is owned by Black Family Holdings, LP. The Company was formed in September 2005 and began construction of its production facility in June 2006. HERO BX produced its first ASTM D6751 approved biodiesel on November 29, 2007. The Company has constructed a 45 million gallon per year capacity biodiesel plant that is designed to produce biodiesel from vegetable oils, animal fats or a multi-feedstock blend. The Company’s biodiesel plant is equipped with Desmet Ballestra designed continuous flow technology. HERO BX has achieved BQ-9000 accreditation as a producer from the National Biodiesel Accreditation Commission. To receive this accreditation, the Company passed a rigorous review and inspection of its quality control processes by an independent auditor. HERO BX has a state of the art on-site laboratory to ensure adherence to the strict specifications of ASTMD6751 quality specifications. The laboratory has opened its doors to outside revenue generation as a certified commercial laboratory. With an eye on the future, HERO BX continues its plan to evolve, and continue to be involved, with community and world health, environmental conditions, and employee and process safety.
