Dequan Gambrell is currently an Administrative Assistant at Hetrick-Martin Institute and a 2023 Periplus Fellow at Periplus Collective. They have also been involved in various organizations such as Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society International and NYC Men Teach. Dequan has experience as an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator at Multiverse Media Project and as the Inaugural President of the Sylvia Rivera House at the Inter-Cooperative Council at the University of Michigan. Additionally, they have worked as a Writing Consultant at the University of Michigan and a Freelance Writer at Current Digital Magazine. Dequan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and a Text-to-Performance minor from the University of Michigan.

Founded in 1979, Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) is the nation’s oldest nonprofit leader in LGBTQIA+ youth service programming.
