Phil Fersht has an extensive work experience in the field of research and consulting. Phil is currently the Chief Executive Officer at HFS Research since 2010. In this role, they are recognized for their expertise in the reinvention of business operations due to technological innovations and the globalization of talent. Phil coined the term "Generative Enterprise" in 2023, highlighting the use of AI technologies based on LLMs and ChatGPT for generating new ideas, optimizing work processes, and disrupting outdated business models.

Prior to joining HFS Research, Phil worked at Gartner as a Research Director and lead for the IT/BPO Services Practice from 2008 to 2010. Phil also served as the Marketplace Leader for Business Process Outsourcing at Deloitte Consulting LLP in 2007 and held the position of Vice President for the Business Process Outsourcing Practice at Everest Group from 2005 to 2007. Phil's previous roles also include Vice President for Global IT Services, Software & Outsourcing Research at The Yankee Group from 2003 to 2005 and Director for IDC Europe, US & Asia at IDC from 1998 to 2003. Phil started their career as a Consultant and analyst for Financial Software Solutions at Tate Bramald Consultancy from 1996 to 1998.

Phil Fersht completed their Bachelor of Science - BS degree in Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services from Coventry University from 1990 to 1994. In addition, from 1992 to 1993, they also pursued a Bachelor of Science - BS degree in the same field of study at IUT2 Grenoble.
