Emily Primack

Director Institutional Development at HIAS

Emily Primack has a diverse background in the field of refugee and humanitarian assistance. Emily most recently worked at HIAS, where they held various roles, including Director of Institutional Development, Institutional Development Manager, Proposal Writer Consultant, and Major Gifts Officer for the Western Region. In these positions, they were responsible for cultivating and soliciting major donors, organizing events, conducting donor research, and representing HIAS at meetings and forums. Prior to that, Emily worked at UNHCR as a Senior Programme Assistant, managing programs to improve education, health, and legal rights for refugees and asylum-seekers, and also creating a mobile app to enhance communication. Emily also served as a Program Manager at the African Refugee Development Center, overseeing educational and legal support programs, establishing partnerships, and founding a scholarship initiative. Emily's experience also includes work as a Monitoring and Evaluation Graduate Thesis Consultant at the International Rescue Committee, where they collected data to evaluate the effectiveness of refugee integration programs, and as an Adult Education Coordinator, providing individualized assistance to refugees. Emily has also worked as a Global Classroom Fellow at One To World, leading workshops on international sustainability practices, and as an Outreach Intern at the Institute of International Education, organizing workshops and preparing statistical reports for the Fulbright Scholar Program.


Emily Primack pursued their education by obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs from The George Washington University, which they completed from 2008 to 2012. Emily then furthered their studies at Teachers College, Columbia University, where they earned a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in International Educational Development from 2012 to 2014. In addition, they obtained a certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from ITTT - International TEFL & TESOL training in June 2010. Emily also briefly attended Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina 'Santa María de los Buenos Aires', although the specific degree and field of study are not provided.
