Mary Ajoot has a diverse work experience in various organizations. Mary started their career as a Project/Legal Officer at CIDI from July 2004 to September 2005. Following this, they worked as a Senior Manager Programs/Advocacy at MIFUMI from October 2005 to June 2011. In 2012, Mary joined HIAS as a Protection Program Manager and continued in that role until their most recent position. From June 2013 onwards, they served as a Legal advisor focusing on Gender and Equality at The Golden Women. Mary is currently employed at IOM - UN Migration, where they work in the role of Resettlement, starting from June 2018.

Mary Ajoot's education history begins with their Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University. Mary then went on to complete a Diploma in Legal Practice at Law Development Centre in 2002-2003. In 2011-2012, they pursued a Masters degree in International Legal Studies and Human rights at Georgetown University Law Center. In 2013, they attended a course on the Status Determination Process at North Western University, Centre for Forced Migration Studies.
