Bernard Welten

Bernard Welten is an experienced professional currently serving as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Police and as a Safety Coach for KNVB since October 2023. Welten holds multiple roles including Board Executive at The Selection Lab, which provides assessment software for candidate selection, and Strategic Advisor at bjam-welten-advies. Furthermore, Welten acts as Ambassador for User-Friendly Justice at HiiL, and has a long-standing advisory position with the Police in the Netherlands. Other notable contributions include co-founding Initiatief1overheid, aimed at preventing fraud, and serving as an extraordinary council member for the Dutch Safety Board. Welten has a rich background in police leadership, having held positions such as Chief Commissioner in both Amsterdam-Amstelland and Groningen, along with various interim management roles in Amsterdam’s municipal government. Educational qualifications include degrees from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Nyenrode Business University, as well as training at the Police Academy.
