Don Brubacher

Director of Athletics at Hillsdale College

On July 30, 2008, Don Brubacher was named the fifth athletic director in the prior 54 years at Hillsdale College. In his tenure at Hillsdale, he has overseen the construction of the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center, the extensive renovation of Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena, and the transition from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Athletic teams at Hillsdale have also earned unprecedented honors on and off the field and court under his watch. For eight consecutive years, Hillsdale College has received the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s President’s Award for Academic Excellence, which honors colleges and universities where student-athletes have the highest rates of on-time graduation. The Chargers also earned the Great Midwest President’s Cup award for the most successful athletic program in 2017-18, Hillsdale’s first year in the new conference.

Prior to his appointment at Hillsdale, Brubacher served for nine years as athletic director at Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas. A 1975 alumnus of Tabor, where he played soccer and basketball, Brubacher coached men’s and women’s basketball at the school, as well as men’s and women’s soccer, during a career that saw him spend nearly 30 years on the field of play. He earned many Coach of the Year accolades, and he led his men’s basketball teams to 12 conference championships. His women’s soccer teams also won a regular season conference championship, and a postseason tournament conference title.

Don is married to Janette, and they have three married sons—Scott, Grant, and Andrew—and seven grandchildren.
