Guocai (George) Shu serves as the Director of Research & Development at Hinalea Imaging since January 2024, focusing on hyperspectral imaging. Previously, Guocai contributed to TruTag Technologies, Inc. as both Principal Systems Engineer and Senior Systems Engineer from November 2018 to March 2024. Prior to that, Guocai was a Senior Software Engineer at BaySpec, Inc. from July 2012 to September 2018, involved in the product development of hyperspectral imagers and software development in that area. Guocai's earlier experience includes a role as Senior Engineer at Thermoflow, Inc. from May 2000 to June 2012, specializing in software development for power plant design and simulation. Guocai obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Physics from Louisiana State University between 1996 and 2000.

Applications include in-line inspection of products for quality and safety (notably food), medical diagnostics, and precision agriculture. As part of its solution offering, Hinalea developed the world’s first high-resolution, handheld autonomous hyperspectral camera, which was awarded the SPIE Best Camera and Imager Prism Award.
