Annette McCartney

Schools Content Producer at Historic Royal Palaces

Annette McCartney has a diverse and extensive work experience in the museum and heritage sector. Annette is currently working as a Learning Producer at Historic Royal Palaces since September 2021. Prior to this, Annette worked as a School Programmes Facilitator at Royal Museums Greenwich starting in October 2018. Annette also served as a SEND Manager at Pop Up Projects from May 2019 to November 2021.

Annette has held roles as a Heritage Learning Consultant at Tricolor Associates from May 2014 to May 2019 and as a Training & Practice Manager at BOOKS BEYOND WORDS CIC from October 2018 to April 2019. Annette has experience as an Education Development Officer at Firepower: The Royal Artillery Museum from September 2012 to September 2013 and as a Visitor Engagement Trainer at The British Museum from May 2012 to December 2012.

Additionally, Annette has worked as a Learning & Access Manager at The Foundling Museum from 2007 to 2012. Annette has also had various positions at London Transport Museum, including Interpretation Officer (2000-2007), Curatorial Assistant (1998-2000), and Information Assistant (1993-1998). Annette's earliest work experience in the field was as a Family Workshop Leader at Victoria and Albert Museum in November to December 1997.

Annette McCartney began their education at Durham University in 1984, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language & Medieval Literature with a specialization in Old Norse, Anglo Saxon, and Middle English language and literature in 1987. Annette then pursued further education at the University of Gothenburg from 1987 to 1990, focusing on North European Archaeology and Old Icelandic Literature. In 1991, Annette attended the University of Leicester and completed a Master's degree in Museum Studies with a specialization in Collections Management. Later, in 2000, they enrolled at Richmond Adult Community College to obtain a C&G 730 Further and Adult Education Teacher's Certificate (Part 1), specializing in teaching adults.
