Steven Thorogood

Steven Thorogood currently serves as Chief of Staff to the Director General of the Customer Services Group at HM Revenue & Customs, a role held since September 2016, where responsibilities include strategy and policy development. Past roles at HMRC include private secretary to the Director General and Senior Operations Manager, overseeing compliance activities for major companies and successfully managing the merger of compliance teams. From May 2014 to August 2016, Steven worked as Senior Operations Manager at the Department of Work and Pensions, focusing on support programs for disabled employees. Additional experience includes serving as Senior Policy Officer at the Ministry of Justice, where efforts were directed towards reforms in the Tribunal system, and working as Benefits Manager within DWP, handling Job Seekers Allowance claimants’ complaints. Steven also contributes as a Governor at Beauchamps High School since June 2019.
