May yer “mine-za” Thao has a wealth of work experience, beginning with their role as an Educational Specialist for the Office for Multicultural and Academic Affairs at the University of Minnesota in 2000. May yer “mine-za” then joined the Peace Corps as a Community-Based Organizational Development Volunteer in 2003, and subsequently held the role of Cultural Orientation Trainer for IOM in 2004. In 2005, they were the Hmong Women's Circle Coordinator for the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley, and also worked as a Consultant/Interpreter for the Moua Consulting Group, LLC in 2008. From 2008 to 2019, they held various roles at the Medical College of Wisconsin, including Grants Administrator for the Community Medical Education Program, Administrative Coordinator for the Institute for Health and Society, and Program Coordinator for the Violence Prevention Initiative. In 2019, they joined the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) as the Assistant Deputy Director, and currently serves as the President and CEO of HAP (Hmong American Partnership).
May yer “mine-za” Thao received a B.A. of Liberal Arts from the University of Minnesota in 2000, with a major in American Studies and concentrations in Asian American and Hmong Studies.
