Caitlin O'Connell has held a variety of roles in their professional career. Caitlin began as a consultant at Traffic International in 2000. In 2003, they were the CEO of Utopia Scientific. From 2004 to 2012, they were a Writer/Producer at Triple Helix Productions. In 2008, they were a (Consulting) Assistant Professor at Stanford University. In 2019, they began working at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital as an Instructor in the Department of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery and an Investigator in the Eaton Peabody Lab at Mass Eye and Ear, funded by NIDCD. Additionally, they are currently the Chief Scientific Advisor at HNu Photonics, where they have directed all bioengineering and biomedical programs and served as a Principle Investigator on three NASA grants.
Caitlin O'Connell earned their BS in Biology from Fairfield University in 1987. Caitlin then attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa where they obtained their MS in Ecology, Evolution & Conservation Biology in 1991. Finally, they earned their PhD in Ecology from the University of California, Davis in 2000.
