Julian Gough has held a variety of positions in the tech and research industries. In 2002, they began their career as a Research Fellow at Stanford University, followed by a Research Associate position at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB). In 2003, they took on a Research Scientist role at RIKEN, and in 2006 they were a Visiting Scientist at Institut Pasteur. From 2007 to 2016, they were a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Bristol, where they were also an Honorary Professor of Computer Science. During this time, they also co-founded Genetrainer in 2013 and Bed Sense in 2016. In 2017, they became a Programme Leader at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) and Founder and CEO of Snowflake Biotech. Finally, in 2016 they became Chief Scientific Advisor, Founder, CTO, CSO and CEO of Mogrify, a data-driven Cell Therapy biotech start-up.
Julian Gough began their educational journey at The Perse School, Cambridge from 1982-1993. Julian then attended the University of Bristol from 1994-1998, where they obtained an MSci in Physics and Mathematics (joint Hon.s). Julian continued their studies at the University of Cambridge from 1998-2001, where they obtained a PhD in Theoretical and Computational Molecular Biology. Julian then went on to Stanford University School of Medicine from 2001-2003 as a Research Fellow in Computational Biology.
