Roland van Dierendonck

Senior Researcher Designing Responsible Applied AI at Hogeschool Rotterdam

Roland van Dierendonck is a Senior Researcher at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences since June 2023, focusing on the co-creation and co-design of Responsible Applied AI within the RAAIT research programme. Additionally, Roland serves as a PhD candidate at Sheffield Hallam University, exploring intersections of biology, motion, and touch through an art-science practice. As the founder of Studio Van Dierendonck, various projects have been developed, including "Chili Pepper Pleasure" and "Chronomicroscopy." Roland has held teaching positions at HKU, leading courses on microbiology and design, and at Waag as Lead for the BioHack Academy. Roland has also been involved in multiple academic roles, including student assistant positions at Leiden University and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Academically, Roland holds a Master of Science in Media Technology from Leiden University and a Bachelor of Science in Beta-gamma with a Biology major from the University of Amsterdam.
