Nicolai Johan Watzenig is the founder and executive chairman of August since June 2018. Nicolai Johan also founded and served as the CEO of August Capital Group starting from 2012. Additionally, they were the co-founder of Homewings, a platform for interior design and procurement, in 2016. Before that, they founded Birdback, a card and loyalty payment API and platform, which was part of Quidco (now Moneysupermarket) from October 2011 to March 2016.

Nicolai Johan Watzenig pursued their education at multiple prestigious institutions. Nicolai Johan attended Columbia University, where they studied at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). Nicolai then continued their academic journey at Université Paris Dauphine - PSL, where they focused on Philosophy and Economics for their degree. Later on, they enrolled in Copenhagen Business School, earning a Master of Arts in Economics (MSc(Econ.)). Additionally, Nicolai completed their Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy & Economics at Copenhagen Business School as well.
