John Paul Thomas has worked in the food industry since 2005. John Paul began their career as a General Manager and Regional Training Manager for California Pizza Kitchen. In 2013, they joined Chipotle Mexican Grill as an Area Manager, leading various restaurant locations in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast markets. In 2017, they joined honeygrow as the VP of Operations Services, Director of Operations, Regional Manager, and District Manager. As District Manager, they were a multi-unit leader operating honeygrow and minigrow restaurants in the Greater Chicago and Washington D. C. Metro areas.

John Paul Thomas obtained their Advanced Diploma from Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in 2004. John Paul then went on to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management from Virginia Commonwealth University - School of Business, which they completed in 2008. In 2011, they obtained the ServSafe Certified and Proctor certification from Servsafe, and in 2017 they obtained the HACCP certification from the International HACCP Alliance.
