Daniel Lai

Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences at Hong Kong Baptist University

Daniel Lai is the current Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Hong Kong Baptist University. Prior to this, they were the Director of the Institute of Active Ageing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from January 2016 to June 2020. Daniel was also the Chair Professor and Head of Department of Applied Social Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from December 2015 to September 2020.

Before their return to Hong Kong in 2000, Professor Lai was a faculty member in the Faculty of Social Work at The University of Calgary, where they held the position of professor from August 2000 to December 2015.

Daniel Lai earned their PhD in Social Welfare from Case Western Reserve University. Daniel then went on to earn their MSW in Social Work from the University of Calgary. Finally, they earned a Master of Social Sciences in Urban Studies from The University of Hong Kong.

They are on a team with Edward Snape - Dean, School of Business, Ronald Chung - Dean, School of Continuing Education, and Steve Guo - Interim Dean, School of Communication. Daniel Lai reports to Rick Wong, Interim Provost.
