James Ford currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Technical Committee at the Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association since October 2023. Ford's recent professional history includes a position as Partner in Funds & Asset Management at A&O Shearman, following the merger of Allen & Overy and Shearman & Sterling in May 2024. Prior to this, Ford was a Partner at Allen & Overy from February 2021 until May 2024, and served as the Managing Partner of the Hong Kong office and Head of Investment Funds at O'Melveny & Myers LLP from May 2004 to February 2021. Ford began the legal career at SJ Berwin from 2000 to 2004, working first as an Associate and later as a Partner. Academic qualifications include a Master of Arts in Law from the University of Cambridge and completion of the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, London.

Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association was established on November 12, 1987 with the objectives of promoting and protecting the interests of the venture capital industry in Hong Kong. The Association was formed based on a recommendation in the Working Party of the Hong Kong Association of Banks' study of venture capital and has been incorporated as a company limited by guarantee. HKVCA's mission is to stimulate a vibrant venture capital and private equity industry in Asia while promoting the role of member firms in value creation, innovation and economic development. HKVCA provides a forum for networking and experience sharing for its members; promotes industry professional ethics, international best practices and standards; and represents the views of its members before governmental and other relevant bodies.
