Amy Pyle

Executive Editor-in-chief at Honolulu Civil Beat

Amy Pyle serves as the Executive Editor-in-Chief at Honolulu Civil Beat, a nonprofit newsroom focused on watchdog journalism in Hawaii, since September 2024. Prior to this role, Pyle held several editorial positions at USA TODAY from September 2018 to September 2024, including Managing Editor for Investigations & Storytelling and National Investigations Editor. Pyle was also Editor in Chief and Managing Editor at Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting from August 2014 to September 2018, and served as Senior Editor at The Center for Investigative Reporting from May 2012 to August 2014. Additional experience includes News Director at UC San Francisco from September 2010 to May 2012, Assistant Managing Editor/Investigations at The Sacramento Bee from May 2000 to September 2010, and various reporting roles at the Los Angeles Times from April 1988 to May 2000. Pyle holds a Master of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts in French/communications from Mills College.
