Kirstin Downey is a book author and special correspondent for Honolulu Civil Beat, where work includes writing a book about the true events surrounding Captain James Cook's arrival in Hawaii. With experience as an editor at FTC:WATCH and as a writer and investigator for the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, Downey also served as a staff writer for The Washington Post for nearly two decades.
