Lavaniya Kunalingam has a diverse work experience in the field of biomedical research and development. Their most recent role is as a Principal Scientist at Coave Therapeutics, where they have been working since 2021. Prior to this, they held the position of R&D Scientist at the same company from 2019 to 2021.
Before joining Coave Therapeutics, Lavaniya worked at Anjarium Biosciences as a Senior Research Associate from 2019 to 2021. In this role, they were involved in planning and executing preclinical studies for the delivery of mRNA using lipid nanoparticles and hybridosomes for the treatment of a lysosomal storage disease. They also contributed to the development of a new generation of non-viral and re-administrable gene therapy, including the formulation process and in vitro and in vivo validation.
Prior to Anjarium Biosciences, Lavaniya worked as an IMED Graduate Scientist at AstraZeneca from 2017 to 2019. They also gained research experience as a Research Engineer at Dr. Raphaël Rodriguez Group - Organic synthesis and cell biology at Institut Curie from 2016 to 2017.
Lavaniya's earlier work experience includes a Master Thesis at Prof. Margaret Brimble Research Group in peptide chemistry at The University of Auckland in 2015. They also had internships in peptide synthesis and organic chemistry at Bayer HealthCare in 2014 and 2013 respectively. They have co-invented several patents during their career.
Lavaniya Kunalingam completed a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from Ecole supérieure de Chimie organique et minérale from 2009 to 2015. Lavaniya also holds a Master's degree in Organic Chemistry from Ecole Nationale Superieure de Chimie Mulhouse, which they completed from 2014 to 2015.
