Lorena Martinez is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in compliance, support, and logistics. Currently serving as the Assistant Director of Compliance and Support and Director of West Regional Relations at the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU) since October 2022, Martinez previously held the role of Lead Doping Control Officer/Educator at the United States Anti Doping Agency from January 2002 to October 2022, where responsibilities included test logistics and protocol adherence. Earlier experience includes database maintenance at Covina's Financial Home Center and tax preparation at HR Block in El Monte, CA. Martinez holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Chicano and Latino Studies from California State University, Long Beach.

Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU)
The Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU), a division of Drug Free Sport International, was created to serve as the independent enforcement agency of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority's (HISA) Anti-Doping and Medication Control program. The HIWU will establish a comprehensive and robust program that includes uniform testing protocols, adjudication processes and enforcement mechanisms to increase accountability and enhance the integrity of the competition for participants, fans and bettors.
