Donald Koch

VP & Chief Investment Officer at Howard Hughes Medical Institute

As vice president and chief investment officer, Koch is responsible for managing the Institute’s endowment. Koch provides leadership and expertise to optimize the performance of HHMI’s investment portfolio. Koch serves as a strategic partner to the president’s office and other members of HHMI’s senior leadership team and reports to HHMI’s Board of Trustees on the status and strategies of the Institute’s investments.

Koch joined HHMI in 2009 and served as HHMI’s managing director of research and portfolio strategy starting in 2013. Prior to joining HHMI, Koch worked as an investment analyst at Lane Five Capital Management, where he was responsible for individual stock and credit investments. Koch started his career as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley and then worked at Gryphon Investors evaluating private equity investments. Koch serves as a trustee of the Ivymount Foundation and on the investment committee of the Norwood School.

Koch earned an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BBA in finance and accounting from University of Michigan.
