Jim Keeley has over 30 years of experience in strategic communications and media relations. Jim started their career as an Information Officer at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 1988. From 1991 to 1993, they worked as a Medical Sciences Writer at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where they developed story ideas and wrote feature articles about research. Jim then served as an Assistant Director of Research Communications at the same institution, where they managed the day-to-day operations of the research communications staff and oversaw the production of news initiatives. In 1994, Jim joined Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) as an Information Officer and later became the Editor of the HHMI Bulletin, transforming it into a widely circulated and engaging magazine. Jim then served as the Associate Director of Communications, overseeing news and media relations. Jim'snext role at HHMI was as the Director of Strategic Communications and News, where they played a lead role in communicating the institute's research programs and science education initiatives to key audiences. Currently, Jim holds the position of Director of External Communications at HHMI, where they develop communication strategies and leads external communications, including media relations, reputation management, and social media strategy.
Jim Keeley attended Classical High School from 1979 to 1983. Jim then went on to Vanderbilt University from 1983 to 1987, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English Literature.
