Tracey Singlehurst-Ward

Tracey is a partner in the firm and sits within the dispute resolution team. Tracey practises in general commercial and company disputes, with specialist expertise in defamation, privacy and media, intellectual property, and sports law.

Tracey is the legal and policy director for Welsh Gymnastics and also has experience providing advice to a wide range of large sporting bodies such as British Boxing Board of Control, the Welsh Rugby Union and high profile athletes.

Tracey also advises on complex intellectual property matters including copyright and trade mark infringement, breach of confidence and passing off.

She regularly acts in injunctive proceedings, both on the claimant and defendant side, and has significant experience in dealing with director-shareholder disputes and restrictive covenant cases.

Tracey also has extensive experience in representing both claimants and defendants in libel claims. Some of her notable cases include successfully concluding proceedings against several UK newspapers and media bodies following wide publication of defamatory statements against an individual, and advising in claims arising out of misuse of social media.

Other recent experience includes successfully acting for an international manufacturer in High Court proceedings against an insurer for failing to indemnify, including successfully defending a Court of Appeal challenge.

Tracey has worked for clients ranging from individuals to multi-national private and public companies such as the Welsh Ministers and Welsh Water, whom she routinely advises in relation to contentious matters.

Tracey enjoys a non-executive board role with Welsh Gymnastics where she has been a director for four years.

As a member of our Education sector team, Tracey has worked with several education clients. Her experience includes advising a university in relation to a copyright infringement claim, and advising the sector on libel claims, reputation management and defamation proceedings.

Tracey joined Hugh James upon graduating from Cardiff University in 2007. She completed her training contract working in the commercial dispute resolution and corporate teams, building a wealth of knowledge and experience in these fields. Tracey became a senior associate in 2012 and progressed to become a partner in 2016.
