Brian Cavanaugh, AIA NCARB, is a highly experienced architect with a diverse range of roles and responsibilities spanning several renowned companies. Brian currently holds the position of Vice President at Huitt-Zollars, Inc., where they began in January 2023. In March 2023, Brian joined Swisspod Technologies as an Architect & Urban Designer.

Prior to these roles, Brian served as the Principal + Co-Founder of ARCHITECTURE BUILDING CULTURE since January 2008. During their time there, they focused on design and collaboration, aiming to reflect, support, uplift, and transform the cultural context of their clients' projects.

Brian's passion for teaching led him to become an Adjunct Professor at the University of Oregon in 2013, specifically within the Department of Architecture, School of Architecture & Allied Arts.

Other notable positions include being the Principal & Public Sector Architecture Leader at Otak from December 2021 to December 2022 and the Design Principal at Works Progress Architecture, LLP from January 2020 to November 2021.

In addition to their professional roles, Brian has actively contributed to the architecture community. Brian served as the President of the Board of Directors for both The Center for Architecture from 2016 to 2020 and AIA Portland in 2017. Furthermore, they held a membership on the Seattle Design Review Board from April 2008 to April 2010 and was a Member of the Board of Directors at Bike Works in 2008-2009.

Brian Cavanaugh, AIA NCARB has a diverse education history in the field of architecture. Brian first attended the University of Oregon from 1989 to 1995, where they obtained a Bachelor of Architecture degree. During their time at the University, they also had the opportunity to study at the Mackintosh School of Architecture in 1993 and 1994, focusing on Architecture & Urban Design.

Cavanaugh furthered their education by pursuing a Master of Architecture degree at Harvard University Graduate School of Design from 1998 to 2000. This advanced degree provided him with a deeper understanding of architecture and enhanced their skills in the field.

In addition to their formal architectural education, Cavanaugh also participated in Leadership Tomorrow - Class of 2009, a program focused on regional issues and community leadership. Although this program did not result in a formal degree, it allowed him to broaden their knowledge and develop expertise in these areas.
