Gene Townsend

Director at HRDC

Gene retired from IMERYS Talc in 2017 after working there for 44 years. After serving as Mayor of Three Forks for 28 years, Gene stepped into his role as Three Forks City Councilperson in 2017.

Gene serves on our Board because he believes strongly in our goals and actions to serve our communities. Gene is inspired by the employees at HRDC, who are so committed to providing assistance to others who need food, housing, and many of the additional program we offer to help our community members have a better quality of life.

Since 1993, Gene has served as a Three Forks Fair Member, and as a Volunteer Concession Stand Coordinator for the annual High School and Three Forks Rodeos since 1996. In 2004, Gene started as a Headwaters Area Food Bank Board Member, also volunteering for the Food Bank in the Summer Recreation Program. Serving on our HRDC Board since 1998, Gene is also a Headwaters Trail System Board Chairperson, a Coordinator of the Annual Headwaters Bank Walk/Run Fundraiser for the trail, a member of the Montana State Board of Sanitarian, a Bike/Walk Montana Board Member, and a Bozeman Area Community Foundation Board Member.

Gene fills many roles in our community, including as a volunteer Santa Claus for the annual Three Forks Christmas Stroll, a member and projects volunteers for the Three Fork Area Historical Society, as a Docent at the Headwaters Heritage Musuem, and as a volunteer at the Three Forks Summer Recreation Program Annual Fundraiser.

Gene enjoys working on the Headwaters Trail System, bicycling, yardwork, traveling, and spending time with his family. He has been married to his wife, Pat, for 23 years. They have two sons who are both married, with two beautiful granddaughters.
