Sue Copeland

Sue Copeland has extensive experience in human resources, spanning over three decades. Sue currently holds the role of Human Resources Director at the Humane Society of Missouri since June 2020. Prior to this, Sue served as the Human Resources Director at Soft Surroundings from October 2011 to June 2020. In this position, they were a top-level HR professional responsible for employee relations, benefit administration, recruiting, training, and policy administration. Sue supervised a team of five employees and managed recruiting, benefits and payroll administration, and facilities management.

Before joining Soft Surroundings, Sue worked as the Human Resources Director at Summit Marketing from January 2009 to October 2011. In this role, they oversaw benefits programs, recruiting, employee relations, on-boarding, and training for a marketing firm with 300 employees across multiple offices.

Prior to that, Sue served as the VP/Human Resources at Manna Pro Products, LLC from June 1994 to December 2008. Their responsibilities included top-level HR and employee relations duties for a multi-plant manufacturer of animal feed products, such as administering health, life, disability, retirement plans, workers' compensation program, and property/casualty insurance.

Earlier in their career, Sue worked as an Assistant HR Manager at DMB&B, an advertising agency, from March 1993 to May 1994. Their primary responsibilities included heavy recruiting, employee relations, counseling supervisors on employee problems, and benefit administration.

Sue started their HR career as a Human Resources Administrator at GTE from February 1988 to February 1993. In this role, they managed all HR and employee relations functions at a remote field location for approximately 160 employees. Their responsibilities included administering the labor agreement, handling salary administration, employee discipline, and employee safety/health issues.

Sue Copeland attended the University of Missouri-Columbia from 1981 to 1985, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Counseling & Personnel Services.
