Leila Roberts

Director, Just Community Development & Investment at Humboldt Area Foundation

Leila Roberts has a extensive work history in various roles and organizations. Leila is currently working as the Director of Just Community Development & Investment at the Humboldt Area Foundation, where they support Tribes, nonprofits, local governments, small businesses, and mission-driven coalitions. Prior to this, Leila served as the Director of the North Coast Small Business Development Center, where they revitalized the institution and achieved significant growth. Leila also worked as a Foundation Fundraiser and Grassroots Movement Coordinator at the Move to Amend Coalition, guiding grassroots groups and engaging major donors. Leila has experience as a Principal at FORJE Consulting, a Consultant at the Climate Justice Alliance, and as the Director of Communications & Development at ORAM. Leila has also worked at United Way Worldwide, Planned Parenthood Southeastern Pennsylvania, and the Medical Broadcasting Company in various leadership and advisory roles.

Leila Roberts has a diverse and extensive education history. Leila completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Psychology at Bryn Mawr College from 1991 to 1995. Later, they pursued a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Sustainable Development Management at the School for International Training from 2011 to 2013.

In addition to their degrees, Leila has also obtained several certifications. Leila completed Graduate Certificates in the School of Communication and the School of International Studies at American University in 2009 and 2010, respectively. Leila has also acquired various certifications related to their professional development. These include the California Leaders Cohort 2022 from the Center for Community Investment, the Microlending Essentials Certificate from CAMEO - California Association for Micro Enterprise Opportunity, and the Small Business Consulting Certification from the Association of Accredited Small Business Consultants® (in progress as of 2021).

Leila has also pursued advanced training in areas such as story-based strategy, board development consulting, community-driven health impact assessment, and intercultural training and facilitation. These certifications were obtained from institutions such as the Center for Story-based Strategy, BoardSource, St. Francis Xavier University (Coady International Institute), and American University.
