CEO & Chief Scientist at Hume AI

Alan Cowen has a diverse work experience in various roles related to scientific research and advisory positions. Alan is currently serving as the CEO & Chief Scientist at Hume AI since March 2021. Prior to that, they worked at Google from December 2015 to March 2021, where they held positions as a Scientific Researcher and Scientific Advisor/Visiting Scientist, contributing to the development of human-centered AI and guiding data-driven research. Before joining Google, Alan was a Postdoctoral Researcher and Graduate Student at the Berkeley Social Interaction Lab at the University of California, Berkeley, from August 2014 to December 2019. During their time there, they published selected research publications. Alan also worked as a Scientific Advisor at Facebook from May 2016 to August 2018, providing guidance on improving people's well-being and conducting data-driven research on humor response. Prior to that, Alan served as a Scientific Advisor at BlackThorn Therapeutics and Halo Neuroscience. Alan started their research career as a Researcher at Yale Visual Cognitive Neuroscience Lab at Yale University from January 2011 to May 2013, and they also worked as a Researcher at ATR Computational Neuroscience Lab at the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International from May 2011 to August 2011.

Alan Cowen received their Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics and Cognitive Science from Yale University, where they studied from 2009 to 2013. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computational Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley from 2013 to 2019.
