Kerrin has an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science (James Cook University) and a Masters in Public Health from the University of Minnesota (USA). After completing her Masters degree she worked in Head and Neck-radiotherapy cancer research (data management/statistics) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and then at the University of California-San Diego in haematology-oncology (clinical trials regulatory/ethics) and Urology-surgery cancer research (data management/database design/statistics) before returning to Australia to work within the HMRI CReDITSS Unit. She has undertaken several classes in medical statistics through the Biostatics Collaboration of Australia (BCA)/University of Newcastle and continues to learn and apply this knowledge in a multi-disciplinary research setting.
