Bharat Amin is executive vice president and chief information officer for Huntington Ingalls Industries, America’s largest military shipbuilding company and a provider of professional services to partners in government and industry.
Named to this position in November 2019, Amin is responsible for establishing the company’s IT and digital strategic direction with a focus on cyber security capabilities through effective engagement with HII’s executive and division leadership teams. In collaboration with the business units, he leads HII’s IT governance and provides functional oversight.
Bharat joined Newport News Shipbuilding in 2014 as the vice president and chief information officer where he was responsible for establishing the IT strategic direction and day-to-day leadership of all information systems at the shipyard. He also spearheaded projects that resulted in Newport News being a recipient of a 2019 CIO 100 award for adopting business-aligned IT strategies during an integration of modern technologies into shipbuilding, most notably Integrated Digital Shipbuilding (IDS).
Prior to that he held various leadership positions at BAE Systems Inc., including vice president and CIO for BAE Systems’ Land & Armaments sector. His responsibilities included the strategic development, use, and support of information management and technology (IM&T); management of the sector’s IM&T budget for its U.S. product lines; and functional oversight of the sector’s operations in the United Kingdom, Sweden, and South Africa. He was instrumental in leading various information technology infrastructure and business transformation programs across the operating group that grew to a $12 billion global business.
Bharat holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Maharaja Sayajirao University, as well as a master’s degree in industrial engineering and an Executive MBA in International Business and Finance from Rutgers University.
