Christian Saller

General Partner at HV Capital

Christian’s career has taken him across the opposite sides of the venture capital industry: from founding companies to investing in them. A wide range of entrepreneurial experiences has shaped Christian’s knowledge of technology and new business models. His focus in VC is on travel, mobility, logistics and fast-growing companies.

Christian grew up in Munich. He holds a doctorate (summa cum laude) in mathematics and a MBA with distinction from the London Business School. His passion for technology and entrepreneurship began in 2000 during his MBA when the first internet bubble burst. Most of his classmates changed their interest to more ‘promising’ areas like hedge funds and real estate. Christian remained fascinated by the internet and its potential to change lives.

His career began in 1998 at an international strategy consultancy. Following stations at a venture capital company and in leading positions in two start-up companies, Christian went on to start his own entrepreneurial journey. He co-founded flight search engine swoodoo in 2007. As CEO he led the company to become Germany’s market leader in just four years. In 2010 he led the sale of swoodoo to U.S. market leader KAYAK, where he took the role of Managing Director Europe. He built and managed a multinational team which was responsible for developing and growing KAYAK’s product in ten countries. He was also involved in the successful IPO on the NASDAQ and the subsequent sale of the company to Priceline (now Booking Holdings) for $2 billion.

During his time at KAYAK, Christian was an active angel investor. He was amongst the early investors of GetYourGuide, one of Germany’s most prominent unicorns. It therefore was a natural step for Christian to move to the investment side when he decided to leave KAYAK. At HV, Christian is supporting companies such as Cabify, Tourlane, Zencargo, Exporo, Dreamlines and Warehousing1.

In his spare time, Chrisitian loves to travel and is an enthusiastic kitesurfer.
