James Moore is a Partner in the Sydney office of HWL Ebsworth Lawyers and is a member of the Financial Services and Regulatory Group. James has over 20 years experience assisting clients to manage regulatory risk and legal obligations under Australia’s financial services laws. Key areas of expertise include retail financial services (consumer credit, payment systems, FinTech and electronic commerce, deposit and transaction products), privacy law, anti-money laundering, unfair contract terms laws and banking system regulation. He is recognised in the Legal 500 as ‘very knowledgeable’ regulatory expert with a ‘high profile in the sector’.

James is recognised for offering practical and commercial advice on all aspects of financial services laws. He assists with the design of new products, the formation of commercial relationships, preparation of plain English customer-facing collateral, and working with regulators to seek relief and responding to major regulatory investigations. James assists major bank and non-bank providers, domestic and international, with these issues, designing legally compliant solutions that meet business needs.

James is deputy chair of the Financial Services Committee and chair of the e-Commerce Committee of the Business Section of the Law Council of Australia, and is a member of the Privacy Committee. James is the legal reviewer for the Privacy and Data Protection module of the LexisNexis Regulatory Compliance service.
