Stéphanie Assouline took office as Acting Vice President – Corporate, Legal and Regulatory Affairs and Chief Governance Officer in January 2025.
With over 25 years of experience as a lawyer at Hydro-Québec, Ms. Assouline has an in-depth understanding of the company’s business context and related issues. She began her career in litigation and went on to practice commercial and corporate law.
In 2018, she was appointed Manager – Legal Affairs – Generation and Shared Services. In this capacity, she headed a multidisciplinary team of lawyers specialized in labour, Indigenous, environmental, commercial and privacy law. Promoted Director – Legal Affairs (Commercial and Corporate) in 2020, she broadened the scope of her activities to include real property law, information technology law and issues related to strategic procurement. In 2023, she became General Counsel and Senior Director – Legal Affairs.
Ms. Assouline distinguished herself in several strategic cases, including arbitration with independent electricity producers and contract negotiations with Churchill Falls (Labrabor) Corporation Limited [CF(L)Co]. Recognized for her innate business sense, intellectual rigour, solid negotiation skills and engaged leadership, she knows how to transform challenges into opportunities.
Ms. Assouline holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Université de Montréal and is a member of the Barreau du Québec [Québec bar association]. She also completed the program on negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution at Harvard Law School. She is regularly invited as a guest speaker.

It was established by the Government of Quebec in 1944 from the expropriation of private firms. Hydro-Québec generates, transports and distributes electricity. It essentially exploits renewable energies, more particularly hydroelectricity. It also does research in energy-related fields and is actively interested in energy efficiency. In addition, it develops the technologies resulting from its research.
