Bernard joined ICA as an Associate after serving as the Chief Financial Officer and Risk Manager at Colonial Foods, one of ICA’s Clients. Bernie’s diversified client base includes real estate, hotels, retail, manufacturing, distribution, importing, colleges, universities, and a growing presence in healthcare, among other industries.
Bernie is a frequent speaker on cutting-edge insurance exposures facing the business world. He has addressed the New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Delaware Apartment Associations on issues such as environmental risk and terrorism as well as current trends in the field of technological risk, including the universe of cyber-related exposures.
Bernie derives great satisfaction in authoring customized insurance language for his client’s unique and challenging exposures. One example included the crafting of wording, which enabled the world’s largest Rabbinical Academy to exercise complete control over damaged biblical manuscripts and bury them adhering to religious law, disallowing the insurance company to dispense or salvage these damaged items as they saw fit, thereby violating their special spiritual status.
Bernie’s dedication to his clients is demonstrated by his “never say die” attitude to claim denials by Insurors. His recent successes include overturning an insurance carrier’s denial to a claim despite the advice of an insurance broker as well as the Client’s own outside counsel to the contrary. The Client was reimbursed $750,000 in legal fees it had expended to defend the claim.
Bernie has provided his risk management expertise on a pro bono basis for various not-for-profit institutions and the community at large.
Bernie obtained a Liberal Arts degree from Yeshiva University and is a member of the Society of Risk Management Consultants.
