Marco Vala

Marco Vala has a diverse work experience in the technology industry. Marco is currently the Senior Vice President of Technology at iCapital, a role they started in December 2021. Prior to this, they worked at Hitachi Vantara as an Engineering Product Owner from September 2017 to November 2021. Additionally, Marco has experience as a Founding Partner at Tabletip Games from July 2012 to January 2019. Marco also worked at Pentaho as an Engineering Product Owner from November 2015 to September 2017, and as an Engineering Consultant from November 2013 to November 2015. Earlier in their career, Marco worked as a Software Engineer at Webdetails from November 2013 to November 2015. Marco also served as a Lecturer at Instituto Superior Técnico from October 2004 to September 2013. Prior to that, they worked as a Researcher and Research Assistant at INESC-ID Lisboa from October 1999 to September 2013. Marco also has experience as a Teaching Assistant at Instituto Superior Técnico from September 1999 to July 2002.

Marco Vala's education history begins in 1995 when they enrolled at Instituto Superior Técnico to pursue a degree in Information Systems and Computer Engineering. Marco completed their Licenciatura (DEng) in this field in 2000. Following this, from 2000 to 2003, they pursued a Master's degree in Computer Graphics and Multimedia at the same institution.

In 2004, Marco Vala joined the Instituto Superior Técnico again, this time to undertake the curricular part of their PhD in Intelligent Agents and Synthetic Characters. Marco completed this phase of their PhD in 2005.

Additionally, Marco Vala has obtained several certifications throughout their career. In 2013, they became a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) through the Scrum Alliance. In 2017, they achieved the designation of Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) from the same institution. Furthermore, they obtained a certification in Storytelling from Adecco Training in 2019. In 2020, Marco Vala became an OKR Expert by completing training in OKRs, alignment, and measurement from a Certified Coach at an institution called Thayer Leadership. Most recently, in 2022, they completed the Thayer Leadership Program, further enhancing their leadership skills.
