Julia Ritz Toffoli serves as the Principal Behavioral Designer and Vice President at ideas42, where the focus is on enhancing charitable giving through behaviorally informed interventions. As the Founder and Principal of Women Who Whiskey since 2011, Julia has fostered a global community for whiskey enthusiasts. Previously, Julia held various strategic roles at the Open Society Foundations, leading organizational planning and capacity building for numerous global programs. Additionally, Julia has experience in whiskey education as the Director of Whiskey Education & Curation at the Museum of Distilled Spirits. Julia’s academic background includes a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University.

ideas42 is a design and research lab that uses behavioral economics to address complex social problems. ideas42 was established in 2008 by Sendhil Mullainathan of Harvard University, Antoinette Schoar of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Simeon Djankov, then of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group, EldarShafir of Princeton University, Jeffrey Kling of the Brookings Institution, and Michael Kremer of Harvard University.At ideas42 we look at everything – including our own internal processes — through a behavioral lens. We approach our work with a spirit of generosity, but we retain a sense of playfulness that helps to drive our creativity. As individuals, we are tenacious and rigorous, and take shared responsibility for the organization’s success.
