Carlos Cifuentes is currently an Associate Professor in Human-Robot Interaction at Bristol Robotics Laboratory. With a background in Robotics and Bioengineering, Carlos has held various visiting and research positions at institutions such as EPF Ecole d'Ingénieur-e-s, Universidad del Rosario, and Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo. Carlos is also an Associate Editor of the IEEE Robotics & Automation Magazine for the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society. Carlos's educational journey includes a Ph.D. in Robotics from Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Entre Ríos, and degrees in Project Management and Electronic Engineering from Escuela Colombiana de Ingeniería Julio Garavito.

Focus is on both applied and theoretical issues in robotics and automation. Robotics is here defined to include intelligent machines and systems; whereas automation includes the use of automated methods in various applications to improve performance and productivity. The society sponsors a number of conferences, including the annual International Conference on Robotics and Automation.
