Mark Nixon is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Southampton, where they taught from 1983 to 2021, focusing on Digital Electronics and Computer Vision. With over 30 years of experience in Biometrics and a longer tenure in Computer Vision, Mark contributed significantly to the field, including the development of gait recognition and ear recognition technologies. They recently completed the 5th Edition of their bestselling textbook on Feature Extraction and have supervised approximately 80 PhD students. Currently, Mark serves as the Editor in Chief for the IEEE Transactions on Biometrics, Behavior and Identity Science, a position they took on in 2024. Mark earned their Ph.D. in Control and Estimation Theory from the University of Reading between 1979 and 1983.
