Previous experience includes teaching microbiology and food science at various academic institutions, and work as a laboratory technician at the National Institutes of Health. Mariely M. holds a PhD in Food Microbiology from Cornell University and a Master's and Bachelor's degree in Microbiology from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.
