Abhay Karandikar

Abhay Karandikar is a distinguished academic and leader in electrical engineering, currently serving as Secretary for the Department of Science & Technology since October 2023. As a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay since April 1997, Abhay has focused on teaching and research in communications networks and wireless communications. Previous roles include Director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur from April 2018 to September 2023, and Chairman of the Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India from October 2016 to October 2018. Abhay also contributed significantly as Center Coordinator for the National Center of Excellence in Technology of Internal Security at IIT Bombay and held various leadership positions at IIT Bombay, including Dean of Faculty Affairs and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering. Abhay's academic foundation includes an MTech and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
