Elizabeth Cervantes is co-founder and Director of Organizing with the Southwest Suburban Immigrant Project (SSIP), an immigrant rights organization serving Will & DuPage counties in Illinois. In her current role at SSIP, Elizabeth oversees the implementation of civic and youth leadership programs and leads the advocacy efforts for issue-based campaigns that SSIP is part of, at the local, state, and federal levels. Her involvement with immigration policy and community organizing began in 2008 in her community college, as an undocumented student herself. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology in 2012, becoming the first college graduate in her family. After graduation, Elizabeth returned to her community in the southwest suburbs to focus on electoral and youth organizing. Part of her mission is to create opportunities and build infrastructures in suburban communities that empower immigrants. Elizabeth is a DACA recipient.
